About the Role

We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our dynamic and experienced team as Leadership Center Director who will be responsible for achieving GSHNJ’s overall goals by providing managerial oversight and direction for GSHNJ’s Leadership Center in Newark. This includes optimizing the facility’s use, value, and impact while building professional relationships with key stakeholders including GSHNJ staff, vendors, strategic partners, volunteers, and the Newark community at large. The Director works with the Newark community to ideate and develop high-quality, culturally relevant programs, events, and services for Girl Scouts ages 5-17 and their families. The Director works cross-functionally with GSHNJ leadership to align these services with Girl Scouts’ mission and fulfill GSHNJ’s strategic objectives.

Here's What You Will Be Doing...

Contributes to strategic philanthropy in Newark, cultivating, nurturing, and stewarding strategic relationships with key community leaders, institutions, and business organizations, that mutually benefit the council and the leadership center’s customers.
-Elevates GSHNJ’s public relations in the Newark community.
-Leverages strategic partnerships to maximize the impact of GSHNJ’s presence in Newark.
-Ensures compliance with grant, funding, and reporting requirements.

Develops and leads the planning, execution, and evaluation of strategies to meet mission delivery goals.
-Provides leadership in the development and expansion of innovative strategies, effective techniques, and new initiatives for delivering high quality, relevant youth programming, growing membership, supporting volunteers, and meeting departmental revenue and operational goals.
-Interprets the Girl Scout Leadership Experience philosophy and the council’s policies, procedures, and standards.
-Includes and centers the Newark community when ideating and developing programming and services provided at the leadership center.
-Develops, cultivates, and maintains curricula that utilize the GSLE’s methodology to create short- and long-term programs and services that provide valuable, relevant, engaging, and diverse experiences for Girl Scouts ages 5-17 and their families.
-Continually engages with GSUSA to remain current and compliant on systems changes, programming, and opportunities relevant to members.

Works closely with council leadership to contribute to wholistic planning, execution, reforecasting, and evaluation of management strategies that fulfill GSHNJ’s strategic business goals.
-Implements pricing strategies, negotiates contracts, coordinates logistics, and maximizes revenue through rental of the facility.
-Develops and maintains departmental budgets, working to set strategies that grow revenue and control expenses in accordance with overall annual goals.
-Curates relationships with facilities’ vendors including landlord, cleaning, security, etc.
-Optimizes and ensures adherence to internal policies, procedures, business processes, and workflows to meet business demand while maintaining brand and finance standards.
-Facilitates troubleshooting, problem solving, service recovery, and conflict resolution to maintain a customer-centric environment.

Provides leadership and direction to Leadership Center team and ensures team has knowledge, skills, tools, and resources necessary to deliver on assignments timely and effectively. This includes:
-Performance management: Establishes team goals and priorities, initiates regular check-ins, assigns projects, monitors progress and key performance indicators and adjusts assignments accordingly.
-Optimizes and ensures adherence to internal policies, procedures, business processes, and workflows to maintain brand standards, staff efficiency, and to meet business demand.
-Develops career development plans with employees and ensures plans are implemented.
Serves as point of escalation for conflict or dissatisfaction among team or customers.

Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all appropriate youth and adults by actively participating in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.

Complies with GSHNJ’s Charter of Values, and uses it as the basis for personal conduct, conflict resolution, and correspondence with customers and coworkers.

Remains current on GSUSA’s and GSHNJ’s initiatives and national and local trends affecting our membership demographic and is able to correspond with team members and customers accordingly.

Attends GSUSA webinars, participates in Chatter groups, and utilizes gsConnect.

Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

Is this you?

  • B.A. or equivalent.

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience, with at least five years of managerial experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web browsing software.

  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications as necessary.

  • Strong project manager skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with conflicting priorities and deadlines.

  • Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to manage internal and external communications in a thorough and clear manner with a diverse group of stakeholders.

  • Understands when and how to modify presentations and correspondence for different audiences and environments.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the Girl Scout Mission and its importance to the public.

  • Ability to build, develop, and coach an effective, high performing team by promoting internal and external partnerships, collaboratively defining boundaries and outcomes; sharing information with others; recognizing and rewarding accomplishments; collaborating with others to create optimal solutions.

  • Ability to provide high-impact performance feedback in ways that will motivate both under-performing and high-performing employees.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with Asana or other project management software.

  • Curriculum writing.

  • Has significant ties to the Newark community.

  • Youth leadership and development.

  • Event planning.

  • Logistics.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Flexibility to shift work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 30 pounds of Girl Scouting products, supplies, or materials.

  • A valid driver’s license, current insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel between council properties and across entire service area as needed.

  • Must become a registered member of Girl Scouts and maintain membership for duration of employment.

  • The job is primarily performed in Newark, but Employee may work from home as needed. Occasionally, Employee will need to attend meetings, trainings, or work events that may be held in any of these locations, others throughout council jurisdiction, or virtually.
