About the Role

Responsibilities:
 Supports the Office of Sustainability team with their research needs related to environmental
sustainability, climate resilience, workforce development, etc.
 Assists with planning, coordinating, and leading community engagement and outreach activities
(both in-person and virtual/webinars)
 Assists with the development and implementation of the team’s communications strategy
 Coordinates and contributes to the creation of internal and external materials such as social
media graphics, videos, promotional materials for events and projects, reports, websites, etc.
 Writes copy for presentations, reports, newsletters, blog articles, talking points, etc.
 Maintains communications dashboard, including quarterly analytics and metrics on email,
website, and social media audience engagement
 Provides data entry support, handles meeting notes, schedules meetings, responds to requests
for information, provides Zoom webinar support, updates files and databases, and provides
internal communications support across departments
 Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with two years minimum work experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in related field

  • A good candidate would be able to thrive both in team settings and in independent work, be highly self-motivated, and able to multi-task, organize, plan, and execute

  • High level of organizational skills with an ability to prioritize, coordinate and manage multiples

    tasks and projects.

  • Strong writing, editing, communications and presentation skills

  • Ability to prioritize, and perform assigned duties with minimal supervision

  • One year of experience using social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) to

    advance social justice campaigns

  • Familiarity with event planning, including virtual events (Zoom webinars or similar)

  • Commitment to environmental sustainability, environmental justice, and community

    engagement

  • Understanding and appreciation of Newark’s residents and knowledge of (or experience of)

    immigration and the challenges faced by immigrant, Black, and Latinx communities

  • Basic HTML and website management experience


  • Basic graphic design i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Canva

  • Basic database management

  • Basic video editing

  • Knowledge of the following social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X

  • Ability to work effectively with and communicate to our diverse audience of the public sector nonprofits, and community


Preferred Competencies:

  • Familiarity with community-based organizations in Newark.

  • Demonstrated experience finding creative solutions to achieve results with limited

    resources.

About the Company

The City of Newark is seeking a Program/Communications Coordinator to join the Office of Sustainability.
Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this new position is an integral role focused on providing
programmatic and communications support to the Office of Sustainability. The
Program/Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer to
coordinate between the Office of Sustainability, City departments, and external partners as well as
supporting the Office of Sustainability team on community engagement initiatives. This position is ideal
