CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Training
Any Essex county resident over 18 can join an elite Community Emergncy Response Team (CERT) and train to protect and save families and communities. Contact: essexoem@essexsheriff.com
GREEN ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (G.A.L.A)
The G.A.L.A Green Alliance Leadership Training Program is a collaborative initiative by the South Ward Environmental Alliance (SWEA), Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA), Parents Engaging Parents (PEP), and the Newark Workforce Development Board (NWDB). Our mission is to equip South Ward residents with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the emerging green economy. Supported by the NJ DEP, our comprehensive 16-week program offers hands-on training, workshops, and support services to foster community resilience and economic stability through sustainable careers.
NJ SNAP
New Jersey's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, provides food assistance to families with low incomes to help them buy groceries through a benefits card accepted in most food retail stores and some farmers markets. Eligibility is set by several factors, such as income and resources
The Rutgers Environmental Stewards
Designed to introduce non-scientists to the science behind important environmental issues and the impacts of climate change affecting NJ. Stewards then give back to their own communities by helping to tackle local environmental problems. If you have a passion for the environment, a desire to learn and a willingness to volunteer, then this program is for you!
Become A 2025 City of Newark SYEP Worksite

Funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), SYEP places young people in paid work experiences that offer mentorship, structure, and a sense of purpose. It’s one of the most effective tools we have to disrupt cycles of school disconnection, court involvement, and risky behaviors.
We’re building a coalition of leaders and advocates dedicated to promoting beauty justice in New Jersey and beyond! Join us to lay the groundwork for safer, more equitable beauty practices and policies. We will be generating ideas, fostering collaboration, and furthering advocacy to support voices both inside and outside the group. Available Resources

The Tea on Toxic Beauty is a Clean Water Action program dedicated to exposing the hidden dangers in personal care products and advocating for safer alternatives. We are fighting for safer beauty products and protecting our communities from toxic chemicals that disproportionately harm women of color. Together, we can demand the change our health deserves!

Black Women for Wellness Beauty Justice Initiative
Black Women for Wellness Beauty Justice Initiative is dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of Black women and girls by addressing systemic inequities in the beauty industry. We advocate for regulating harmful chemicals in beauty products, educate our community about the risks associated with toxic exposures, and empower individuals to make informed choices. Through collaboration, policy change, and awareness campaigns, we strive to create a safer, more equitable beauty industry that respects and prioritizes the health of Black women and their families.

Newark360 is a community-based citywide Master Plan, developed in 2021-2022. The Plan will guide physical development of the city for the next decade and beyond. The Newark360 Master Plan was adopted by the Planning Board on September 26th, 2024.
